The girl’s aunt (centre) told Daily Sun the
trouble started when her sister accused
her own daughter of stealing R20 from
her. The angry mum apparently told the
girl to fetch boiling water and when she
brought it, she told the girl to pour it into
a wash basin. She allegedly then threw
the water over her daughter’s back.
The aunt said she found out what had
happened when she went to visit her sister
on Sunday, June 12. She said she had no
choice but to go to the cops.
“The poor girl sustained burn wounds on
her back and left arm. I know my sister is
very abusive towards her children. What
makes me very angry is that although the
girl was badly injured on Thursday, she
waited two days to go to hospital. All I
want is for my sister to get help before
she does something drastic.”
Police spokesman constable Peter Kareli
said a case of assault was opened against
the mum and cops are investigating.
